All That's to Come

Last week, posts aside mouse felt anxious. The horrible events across the country had an effect on all of us. Yes, Daddy does keep mouse from watching the news -- because it's so depressing something mouse brought up just recently. Still it doesn't keep all the ugliness of the world out. And hates to admit when she heard the news, she turned on CNN. The baby was playing with toys and seemed to not notice the news unfolding. Daddy came home and held his girls and son. We all felt it. The rest of the week, mouse avoided the news like a plague. Still she couldn't keep out all the sadness. Eveywhere she went people were talking about it. Add to that all the other news. Daddy was sweet with his mouse all week, but still there was a strong drive to just be near him. To keep everyone near her though.

Daddy spent Friday night talking about all the good in the world as we shared our Shabbat meal with some friends. We didn't talk about bad things -- just the positive. Random people opening their homes to complete strangers. Offerings of food.

Yesterday, was a lovely day. We worked in the yard, clearing some plants that just didn't survive the winter. We watched the kids play, Daddy sipped and beer and said to mouse, "Even at its worse and most ugly, life is beaufitul." In the evening after the kids went to bed, Daddy had been in the hot tub while mouse thumbed through a magazine. He came into the room, remarking that mouse had been quiet most of the week. Actually, the word he used was 'unsettled' and he was right. We meditated together and when mouse couldn't find that quiet mental place, he just pulled her closer and held her.

It was a tough week, and I knew I was obsessed with the news and I couldn't seem to help myself.

mouse,
i don't watch the news anymore either. i actually found out about the bombing through reading a kink blog. i am empathic and have a hard time not absorbing tragedy. i kept candles lit all week in here, even more than usual. i avoided the news and sent out loving energy to everyone who needs it most, bombing victim/loved ones or not. i'm ironically taking a class about crisis intervention right now. i think your Daddy is right, there is so much beauty in the world that its nearly painful sometimes. i try and focus on that. Still, each day she leaves for work, i remind her to please be careful. You just never know. i hope you are taking special care of yourself right now.

Mouse,

It was a very difficult week. I like Omega's positive attitude seeing good despite the tragic events.

Its seems of late there is nothing but tragedy unfolding, i have always felt it important to watch the news and encourage my 16yr old son to as well...i want him to be aware of hmm life in all its ups and downs but it is upsetting but it brings about discussion....which with a teen i encourage.

But yes Omega is correct and i would add that for all the sorrow that is in the world there is far more joyus occassions that are not as publicised.

People think it strange that I don't watch the news anymore, mouse, but I don't. 9-11 was bad enough, but once when Daddy was on a weekend mission with a surface fleet boat, there was news of a ship attacked but not whether Atlantic or Pacific and I was terrified. It doesn't pay to watch the news - then I only have to be afraid of the phone.

But he's right, even at it's worst, there is beauty in life. And we are lucky to have the Daddies we do to help us find it.

(((hugs)))

mouse,
Life is precious. Not a day do I take for granted. Perhaps it is because I work in a field where I witness some of the ugliest and most unkind behaviours on a day to day basis. Regardless of the reason, I am blessed to have found this level of peace with all the world experiences. The truth, for me at least, is that there truly is far more good, kind and loving moments than not. Everyday I notice kindness whether it be a smile from a stranger or someone holding a door or a simple thank you at the grocery store. Many people often do not include such activities as acts of warmth, I wonder why? Perhaps they do not feel grandiose enough unlike the many acts of pain we witness. Those moments of ugly are often large, causing damage to many people, making a spectacle of the human race. Still they are few and far between compared to the generosity I witness each and every day.

Life for me is about living in the present. All we really have is today. Right now. And right now is so beautiful. I can see tulips budding and smell the lawn coming to life. I hear, every morning the song of birds, grateful for having survived the winter and embracing the Spring. I hear a child's laugh and see two new sweethearts walking down my street, hand in hand embracing a love they feel will last a life time.

Life is a rich gift and I refuse to taint it with unsettled doubt about all the what ifs. There will always be the possibility of harm. Humans are silly creatures, full of emotion and misguided direction. I can not change the hate that festers but I can control what lives in me, how I walk along my journey. And I want to walk with a skip in my step, a smile in my heart and the belief that there is good.

Sending warmth,

~cockdoll

i've stopped watching the news for the most part, but i did watch some about the bombing after i heard about it through a blog. i watched just enough to be informed, but couldn't stay on it long. Life is beautiful and i feel that bad things get sensationalized by television and such and mars that beauty. It's been a long road for me to get where i am now and i don't want to be pulled back to where i was. It is better for me to just know what i need to know without being ignorant, and keep what is good in my heart to share with those around me.

That's where little ones and cartoons come in handy :-)

It was a very bad week.

Oh Jade!

It's true not watching the news....it doesn't stop the really big stuff from getting in. Yes can completely agree with everything you said. In fact mouse has been feeling a bit "spiritual" (Not sure that's the right word) lately. It's easy tho to focus on the bad and that's why Daddy's words were so timely for mouse.

You make an excellent point. And you've given mouse something to think about it...

Oh June...

Big hugs to you. It has to be hard -- would like to say that she can't imagine but she can. Back when mouse was very little, we lived on a navy base. Vietnam. Honestly mouse doesn't remember much about it...but the stories her mom would share...

Can completely understand it...

Bigger hugs and love,
mouse

This was beautiful. And really mouse should print and frame it on her wall...

Daddy read it first and told mouse to read it several times. Which is probably his way of saying, "Take this to heart." and your completely right. It's so easy to focus on ugliness of the world and dismiss all the good -- we need to do more of the opposite.

Thank you so much for taking the time to remind mouse of this!

Hugs and love,
mouse

Jacquie,

Honestly mouse completely agrees with you and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts on this!

It's a delicate balance mouse has found between that "just know what i need to know without being ignorant" and immersing oneself too far. Really mouse doesn't need to know the perpetrators names or see pictures of them...All she needs to know is that they won't be doing this again. For some people it's not enough to just know that...

Thanks again for sharing...

Hugs,
mouse
