Eyes like fire in the night

Greetings from mouse,

Saturday night with the help of Lucy's daughter, Daddy decided that it was time for mouse and he should go out for an evening -- just the two of us without children. It was kinda nice, going out on a date with Daddy! Daddy wore his navy blue jacket, with a casual thin sweater and tan pants, while mouse wore a dark gray wiggle skirt, pretty purple top, with her black cardigan sweater, dark hose with the lines up the back and heels. We left instructions for the sitter, kissed the children and headed out the door. It was kinda nerve wracking...both of us away....we didn't get down the street before mouse was pulling out her phone. How did parents survive before cell phones?? Daddy made a deal, he said mouse could text after we got seated at the restaurant. He assured mouse they'd be fine....

A million and one thoughts were running through mouse's mind at once. What if the arlarm wasn't set? A million what if's invaded her -- all horrible.

Once seated, Daddy ordered mouse a cocktail while mouse fired off a text...and waited...and waited...a second text...a third text. Just when mouse was about to send a frantic text to Lucy, the sitter responded all was fine. She was giving the baby a bottle and her phone was in her bag (because it's a well-know fact all teens can text with one hand). Daddy ordered mouse a second drink.

After a wonderful meal, Daddy surprised mouse with movie plans. We went to see The Descendents. It was sad, yet it starred George Clooney, but still the type of movie that makes you laugh, then cry. It brought up emotions in both of us. After walking silently to the car, Daddy admitted that he should have read more about it. He watched a trailer. It was ok really, mouse assured him it was fine...

Back at home he paid the sitter and drove her home while mouse took care of the baby. When he got back, we were quiet and sat on the sofa snuggling when kiddo came downstairs. We sat as a family laughing, telling really bad jokes and exchanging stories.

We're lucky, and mouse knows it. Since the baby arrived, she's been in our room right beside mouse's side of the bed in her bassinet. If baby gets fussy, mouse can just pick her up, nurse or snuggle with her. We had for lack of a better word a family bed. Daddy isn't thrilled with the arrangement and remarked that it was time for the baby to sleep in her own room.

Ok, the room is just a few steps down the hall, but it felt like a million miles.

So we tried it, begrudgingly and he was right, mouse had no trouble hearing the monitor tending to the baby and returning to bed. It's true, mouse did sleep a little better not hearing all those little noises the baby makes. Ok, a whole lot better because the baby girl is such a noisy sleeper and the monitor just really picks up cries.

Well, Sunday night, after waking the baby to nurse, Daddy wanted some different attention from mouse. It was the first time in a long while and we forgot about the world, stayed up probably too late...but it's all good. We took the time to reconnect in a physical sense. We had our bedroom back, our bed and for that time, each other.

Oh Mouse, what a lovely read to start my day! So happy, happy!
It's nice to have time together, and it's still hard to separate from one so small- who you know depends on you. Just another kind of balance that you seem to be getting just right! And your daddy is helping in just the right ways. So nice!

I am so glad the two of you got some time to reconnect. It sounds like a wonderful weekend. I know it can be hard to put the baby in her own room but maybe this will reinforce the decision. I insisted on a family bed with my first, she is 8 and she is still in my bed. To this day I can only have my Mom take the girls overnight because she also has to sleep in the bed with my oldest. My mom warned me of this only for me to snap back "come on mom, do you really think she is going to still be in my bed when she's 8". My Mom is rightfully smug.

It warms my heart to hear you sound so good.

Dear mouse,

We had the same response to "The Descendents." The trailer made it seem like a comedy, but it was, in fact, very sad. The most difficult part for me was the idea of discovering a secret about someone you love, a secret that makes you see the other person in a completely different way, but you discover the secret too late. It wasn't so much about anger; it was more the idea of realizing that maybe there's a completely other part of the person who I love so much. A part I never got to find out about. I think that would be difficult, and it's what haunted me about the movie.

Hugs,
Lily

PS But glad you had such a great evening.

It was nice. Really very nice! He'd been thinking about it all week, but didn't want to mention it until the weekend...He knew mouse would have a lot of anxiety about it. Really, the baby took it much easier than mouse did. He doesn't want the baby at 2 or 3 years old still sleeping with us...

We have a friend they have three daughters all of the sleep in the bed with their mom. Her husband moved into another room all together.

It's hard to know when the line for them is crossed when it becomes a need or habit..Guess it's similar for woobies or blankies or pacifiers or thumb sucking...

It's kinda amazing what some decent sleep did for mouse and some lovin' LOL

The movie was very good. Really it was. Wonderful. Excellent. But yea, it was sad...

Now mouse doesn't mind a good tearjerker...but tell it is from the start! LOL. There she was in the theater, nose dripping, no Kleenex...finally Daddy passed his handkerchief. By the time we left, mouse was a mess...LOL But that movie did hit a lot of nerves really for both of us.

9 other movies have been nominated for Oscars! 5 was much more manageable, hopefully we'll see a couple more.

He said it was between that and The Artist, but he chose it because of Clooney...He knows mouse adores him...
