It's Wonderful, Wonderful

It's completely no lie, mouse has a schizophrenic iPod. The music ranges from classical, to jazz, disco, Sinatra, even cultural music, to a wide arrange of music from the 60s and 70s some 80s and 90s...few beyond that. One group dominates the iPod tho and it's the Grateful Dead. So placing it on shuffle always is odd.

Live something Dead, followed by jazz or classical, back to the dead and maybe onto The Beatles or Warren Zevon or who knows. It makes Daddy nuts. Yes, there are playlists, which are extensive based on mouse's mood or the mood she wishes to create. Creating a mood with music is easy for mouse -- something almost innate. It's as though she was born with the knowledge of how to make music feel fluid.

Is it possible to gage another's mood by simply reading a text message? Maybe it's because our connection is so interwoven into who we are, but yes, mouse can read Daddy's mood. Other people, not so much. Daddy's messages were short and to the point -- terse? Maybe a little, so as mouse donned her apron (please don't talk about apron oppression because mouse is a sloppy cook) a scant few messages followed each...gosh wish mouse could explain it better. There was a vibe with them and left mouse convinced that his day had to be miserable. Still though, mouse wasn't sure because she's been wrong before. Lots of times actually. Still, maybe it's best to err on the side of caution. So mouse got a cool towel ready, a tall glass of unsweetened iced tea with a sprig of mint, the way he likes it.

Dinner was still in the oven, when he came through the door -- he looked like hell. Actually he looked physically unwell but assured mouse he was feeling fine. After a relaxing a little he looked much better. Later, after dinner he spoke to mouse or maybe unloading about his stressful day. His mood seemed to lift the simple act of talking helped him release his stress.

But there was also the music playing, soft, lilting and upbeat. So mouse can't be exactly sure the music helped -- more research was needed, or so mouse thought. Then Daddy paused and said, "I like this song." and then he sighed and took mouse's hand. Does mouse need to mention what all went on next?

Song Selection: Wonderful Wonderful

my brother looked at my music collection on my shelf, turned to me, and said, "How many people share this shelf?" His meaning was like yours, the scattered and varied nature of my music collection may indicate "an issue." I have lots of classical (orchestral and guitar), 80's rock, 60's classics, several Rat Pack CDs, tons of Broadway and Trance/Dance/Rave that I use when I teach at the gym. Split personality? Perhaps, but one of the voices in my head is always singing along to something it likes.

That's why I'll only shuffle within playlists.
I love every single one of the 3217 songs on here (cuz if I don't, they get *DUH-leeted!*) but a lot of them are just plain discordant when played back to back.

I prefer to think of it as eclectic rather than schizophrenic and I love that you like Warren Zevon, I think he's been so underrated, just love him.

the soundtrack to life ... :)

My playlists are eclectic in genre, I mix pop and classical up, however they represent moods rather than style. They can help me to change my mood or re-enforce the one I'm in. There is one other 'playlist' I love to listen to - the sound of his beating heart next to me. Perhaps that is why we love rhythmic music?

Hi Mouse,

I am with you! Music rules my life. It gets me thru my work day - I have a very toxic work environment & I am grateful for my iPhone & headphones!

I love having eclectic tastes in music. My absolute must is the Beatles though. But I have everything from Tex Ritter to Pink to the Cruxshadows and Andrew Lloyd Webber!

Anyway, I just wanted to say Hi. I really enjoy your blog (have read the whole thing). You are a pretty remarkable woman!

Cheers =^.^=

This is the exact reason I can not listen to my ipod in the car with the family. Who knows what will pop up next! :)
From classical, to ambient sounds to rap, hip hop and then to alternative and even pop... My ipod has some serious identity issues!

Yes, but on mouse's phone if the playlist ends...for some dumb reason the next time she gets into the car it begins shuffling through everything....And she NEVER uses shuffle on play lists (because reasons). LOL

That said tho, her phone playlists are very limited....Still varied but limited...

It's the regular ipod Daddy says where mouse's true insanity is shown...LMAO.

Daddy only keeps music on his ipod he wants to listen to...he's weird that way. Everything shuffles wonderfully. Of course it's only ONE type of music....of course it shuffles nicely. *eye roll*
