Arms to Hold You

Christmas night, after the kids had passed out and were sound asleep. Daddy and mouse headed up to bed. After he finished torturing mouse for a while we snuggled in bed. His body wrapped around mouse and we talked a little.

We're not doing New Years Resolutions this year. Instead Daddy said he wants mouse to keep to her expectations. He remarked how happy he's been lately that she's been putting in much effort to keep to them. It hasn't gone unnoticed by him. The only thing mouse asked was that Daddy continue to be just as vigilant as he's been at keeping mouse in line.

A symbiotic need seems to drive us. It's not always perfect, sometimes it's very messy too. And if mouse is honest, it's Daddy who sets the tone and keeps things in line. That's not to say mouse can't, at times, challenge his authority or become obstinate with him. But he needs to be challenged at times too. If you're never challenged maybe, you're never sure what you believe. He knows far too well that this life works too well for us.

A thought has occurred to mouse, perhaps we've been so busy lately -- maybe Daddy's been too busy to pay attention to demerits. Daddy smiled when mouse mentioned it to him. He replied that he's really let nothing slide. Then he placed mouse in the hot seat by asking if there was anything she felt he's missed. The only thing mouse was unsure about on Christmas, she snapped a couple times at Daddy.

He said he doesn't expect total perfection, what he expects is respect. Both times mouse realized she was snapping and apologized. He said that he knew mouse was under some pressure that day too. Lack of sleep tends to make mouse cranky so he said also and admitted he was a tad terse.

It's nice that we're honest about these things. A lot has happened this past year with mouse and it makes her feel even more blessed to have him in her life!

Happy New Year to all of our blogging friends, may 2014 be a great year for us all!
